A common question asked during many of the amalgamation meetings for the new parish was, ‘What are we doing for our youth?’ We on the Parish Council knew that this would be a priority for us so we formed a subcommittee to address this issue. We now have a burgeoning, blossoming, flourishing youth group in our parish!

We had an initial youth gathering in July with Mass and games and food and from that we established what the youth wanted for their group. Since then we have met on the first and third Fridays of every month from 6.30-8.30pm at Sacred Heart Hall in Petone.

We have attracted some excellent young vibrant volunteer leaders and within the group there is definitely some youth leaders emerging. We have established great links within St Bernard’s and Sacred Heart Colleges as well as our primary schools and they very kindly advertise for us in their class notices.

What can we do as a parish? Bring the youth along. We aim the group at year 8-13’s and ALL are welcome. These young people are not just the future of our parish and church but are the present also so please encourage them to come and even come yourselves and have a look at what we do.

Also please remember us all in your prayers

Newsflash: we hope some of the young people from Holy Spirit Parish will be able to attend the Lifeteen Youth Camp soon.  Stay tuned for more details — and in the meantime have a look at the Lifeteen site where you can find information about the event.
